On Friday, October 18, 2024, a swarm of bees suddenly invaded the Sunyani Central Mosque, causing widespread panic and disrupting Islamic services.
The unexpected attack occurred at 13:20 hours, during the congregation’s regular Friday prayers, forcing hundreds of worshippers to flee with their faces covered.
Emergency responders from the Ghana National Fire Service’s Bono Regional Command and the Ghana Ambulance Service swiftly intervened, mitigating the situation.
Despite their efforts, the bees attacked several congregants, particularly the elderly and women, who were trapped in the chaos. Nearby shop owners and traders along the Sunyani-Zongo one-way were also affected as the bees rampaged through the neighborhood.

According to Assistant Divisional Officer Grade One Kwame Adomako Antwi, the Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, the bees even assaulted some firefighters.
Fortunately, those injured have received medical attention. Initially, the GNFS received a distress call about a suspected fire outbreak at the mosque, only to discover the bee invasion upon arrival.
Many Muslims in the Sunyani Zongo area expressed shock and surprise at the incident, stating it was the first of its kind at the mosque.
