Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has publicly condemned President Akufo-Addo and the judiciary for allegedly undermining the Constitution.
Bagbin claims they are stalling the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, which Parliament has already approved.
At a November 6 press conference, Bagbin expressed concerns about the judiciary’s processing of related cases and the president’s refusal to accept the bill. He argues this sets a worrying precedent and compromises Parliament’s integrity.
Bagbin emphasized that MPs should prioritize loyalty to Parliament over the Supreme Court, stating that the frequent resort to the judiciary undermines the legislative body.
The Speaker urged the President and judiciary to “confess and repent” for disregarding Ghana’s democratic processes.
