Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has unveiled a statue in his likeness at the entrance of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi, marking the conclusion of his one-day thank-you tour of the Western Region .
The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, explained that the statue honors the president’s key initiatives in the region, including the rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, construction of the 3-tier Sinohydro interchange, and redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle.
While some projects initiated under Akufo-Addo’s administration remain incomplete, the statue’s unveiling has sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms. The president’s visit to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital was part of his effort to engage with residents of the Western Region.
This move has raised questions about the timing and significance of the statue, particularly given the ongoing election season. Critics argue that the statue may be seen as a symbol of self-aggrandizement, while supporters view it as a testament to the president’s commitment to the region’s development.
The Western Region has seen significant investments under Akufo-Addo’s administration, including infrastructure projects and healthcare initiatives. The Effia-Nkwanta Hospital’s rehabilitation is one such project aimed at improving healthcare services in the region.
