Teen Father Arrested In Adamawa For Murdering her Newborn Son For Money Rituals Due To Economic Hardship

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man, Aliyu Yaro, in connection with the alleged murder of his three-day-old son in Mubi North Local Government Area.

The arrest followed a report made by the baby’s mother, who claimed Yaro was responsible for the tragic incident.

According to a statement released on Saturday, November 9, by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect led officers to the location where the baby was buried. The authorities were able to exhume the infant’s body following Yaro’s confession.

“The Adamawa State Police Command apprehended Aliyu Yaro on November 8 for allegedly killing his three-day-old son,” read the statement. “The suspect, a resident of Kwacham ward in Mubi North, was accused by his girlfriend, Safiya, who is the mother of the baby.”

During interrogation, Yaro reportedly admitted to the crime, detailing his actions. He claimed that after impregnating his girlfriend, she repeatedly asked him to take responsibility for the baby. On the night of the incident, Yaro visited her home and, after sending her on an errand, took the newborn and later buried the body in the Girpata area of Mubi.

Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, expressed deep concern over the incident and ordered the case to be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution.

The police are continuing their investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
