The Minority Caucus in Ghana’s Parliament made a bold move yesterday, October 22, 2024, by occupying the seats typically reserved for the Majority, further escalating tensions between the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) [1).
Led by its leadership, the Minority Caucus’s strategic move aims to assert control of the Chamber amid ongoing legal and political conflicts.

This power play is seen as a direct response to Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin’s ruling on October 17, declaring four parliamentary seats vacant.
The ruling has shifted the balance of power in favor of the NDC, with the party now holding 136 seats, while the NPP retains 135 seats. The vacant seats comprise two from the NPP, one from the NDC, and one held by an independent MP.
