The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has secured a commanding majority of seats in several key regions across Ghana, according to early results from the parliamentary elections.
The opposition party has demonstrated strong support in traditionally loyal areas, as well as notable gains in swing regions.
The NDC’s parliamentary seat wins breakdown as follows:
- Upper West Region: 11 out of 11 seats
- Upper East Region: 15 out of 15 seats
- Oti Region: 9 out of 9 seats
- Volta Region: 18 out of 18 seats
- Bono East Region: 10 out of 11 seats
- Bono Region: 11 out of 12 seats
- Ahafo Region: 5 out of 6 seats
- Savannah Region: 6 out of 6 seats
- Greater Accra Region: 30 out of 34 seats
- Central Region: 18 out of 23 seats
- Western Region: 15 out of 17 seats
- Western North Region: 8 out of 9 seats
- Eastern Region: 10 out of 33 seats
- North East Region: 3 out of 6 seats
- Ashanti Region: 7 out of 47 seats
- Northern Region: 12 out of 18 seats
These results demonstrate the NDC’s continued strength in its traditional bases, particularly in the Volta, Upper West, and Upper East regions. The party has also made significant gains in swing regions like Greater Accra and Central.
In contrast, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) retained dominance in regions like the Ashanti Region but faced notable losses in several areas, including Bono East and Western. This shift in the political landscape could have significant implications for the presidential race and overall governance in the next parliamentary session.
