The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has stirred social media discussions following his recent interview with GHOne TV anchor Serwaa Amihere.
In the interview, Chairman Wontumi was observed struggling to articulate his thoughts in English, sparking reactions online. Despite being an alumnus of Prempeh College, Wontumi is widely known for his challenges with the English language.
However, he often insists on using English during interviews, even when it may not be necessary.
During the discussion, Wontumi addressed claims that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the NPP’s running mate and Minister for Energy, was facing difficulties communicating effectively on the campaign trail.
Wontumi dismissed these concerns, asserting that Ghanaians admire NAPO and that such criticisms were baseless.
The chairman’s apparent difficulty with English prompted a flurry of reactions on social media, with many users suggesting he should consider conducting interviews in Twi, a language he speaks fluently, to avoid further scrutiny.
The interview has reignited conversations about language use in public communication, particularly among political figures, and the importance of authenticity in connecting with the electorate.
