The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections has sparked a flurry of blame games among party members.
Eugene Boakye Antwi, Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, has weighed in on the issue, attributing the party’s loss to the failure to sack Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in time.
According to Antwi, the public had been clamoring for Ofori-Atta’s removal due to the dwindling economy, which was affecting their livelihood.
However, the party leadership turned a deaf ear to these concerns, allowing Ofori-Atta to continue in his role until February 2024, when he was reassigned.

“Keeping Ken Ofori-Atta at the post until February 2024 meant that we were not listening to the very people who voted for us, and therefore, we didn’t deserve their vote in 2024,” Antwi stated.
The MP’s comments come amid growing discontent among NPP members, with many calling for a leadership review ahead of the 2024 elections.
Antwi’s words highlight the growing rift between party leadership and the electorate, with many questioning whether the NPP can recover from its recent defeats and restore the trust of Ghanaians.
The election results showed a significant decline in voter turnout, with almost a third of registered voters failing to cast their ballots due to apathy.
Antwi described this as a “stark reminder that leadership must be responsive to the people’s needs, or else they will simply disengage from the political process”.
