We’ll Complete Saglemi Housing Project In 400 Days – Quarm-LMI Consortium

The long-delayed Saglemi Housing Project has been given a new lease on life, with the Quarm-LMI Consortium, the government-appointed developer, pledging to complete the over 1,500 housing units within 400 days.

According to Kofi Adabor Ofori-Amanfo, the Managing Director of the consortium, structural integrity tests will be carried out on the existing buildings to evaluate their stability. This move is aimed at ensuring that the housing units meet high safety and quality standards.

The consortium inherited shell structures that had been left unattended for over seven years. These structures had been exposed to bad weather conditions, flooding, and other environmental factors that had taken a toll on their integrity. To address these challenges, the consortium plans to undertake re-engineering work on certain parts of the structures.

This will involve assessing the damage caused by the environmental factors and making the necessary repairs to ensure that the structures are safe and habitable.

The Saglemi Housing Project was initially envisioned as a solution to Ghana’s housing deficit. However, the project has been plagued by delays and controversy.

The original contract was amended three times, effectively reducing the project scope to 1,506 units ¹. Despite this, the government’s decision to appoint a private developer to complete the project is seen as a positive step towards addressing the country’s housing needs.

The Ministry of Works and Housing has emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability in the project’s implementation, with the selection process for a strategic investor being conducted with fairness and integrity.

As the consortium works towards completing the project within the stipulated timeframe, Ghanaians can look forward to the availability of affordable housing units that meet high safety and quality standards.

The project’s completion is expected to provide a significant boost to the country’s efforts to address its housing deficit.
