A social media user has unleashed a scathing attack on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, after he expressed distrust in politicians to develop the Ashanti Region.
The Asantehene’s comments, made during a meeting with World Bank officials, sparked a heated debate, with some defending his stance and others criticizing his timing.
The social media user in question took particular issue with the Asantehene’s implication that the new NDC government would not develop the Ashanti Region.

She accused him of remaining silent during the NPP’s tenure, suggesting that he was benefiting from their “loot” and only speaking out now to “court disaffection” for the new government.
This backlash comes amidst a broader discussion about the development of the Ashanti Region. Former President John Mahama, who recently won the presidential election, has pledged to prioritize the region’s development, citing his previous investments in healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
The Asantehene’s comments have also raised questions about the role of traditional leaders in politics. While some argue that they should remain apolitical, others believe that they have a critical role to play in advocating for their communities’ needs.
