A young lady, identified as Portia and formerly associated with the renowned Dance with Purpose Academy (DWP), has been exposed for using her position to scam unsuspecting children and their parents.
Portia, once a vibrant dancer and a member of the DWP team, reportedly took advantage of the academy’s reputation to deceive aspiring dancers.
According to an official statement by one of the stars of the academy, Portia demanded exorbitant registration fees ranging from GH¢500 and above from children eager to join the dance group.
She allegedly convinced these children to pressure their parents into making payments, claiming the funds would secure them a spot in the group and open doors for ambassadorial opportunities. The total amount she collected is reported to be over GH¢10,000.
However, the DWP team uncovered her scheme and took immediate action to address the situation. In a bid to clear the air, the academy clarified that joining their group requires only an in-person registration fee of GH¢80.
They emphasized that no online registration process or mobile money number is associated with their admissions.
As a result of her fraudulent activities, Portia has been permanently expelled from the DWP Academy and barred from attending any events associated with the DWP brand.
The academy urged the public to remain vigilant and advised parents and aspiring dancers to verify official information through proper channels. “We stand by our values of integrity and inclusivity and will not tolerate any actions that tarnish our reputation,” a representative of DWP stated.
