The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is pushing for a debate among presidential and vice-presidential candidates from various political parties ahead of the 2024 elections.
This move aims to enlighten voters and enable informed decision-making at the polls.
Professor Alexander Bilson Darku, a senior fellow at IEA, revealed that discussions with political parties have commenced to organize a debate before December 7.
He emphasized that the debate is a right of the people, allowing them to know their presidential candidates’ plans and policies.
The IEA will use the Afrobarometer criteria to select participating parties, likely narrowing it down to four or five parties. Their presidential and vice-presidential candidates will then be invited to participate in the debate.

While the NPP and NDC have expressed differing opinions on the necessity of debates, the IEA remains committed to hosting a debate that will benefit both the parties involved and the nation. The IEA’s timetable and program details will be made public soon.
