As part of efforts to combat climate change and reduce transportation costs, Ghana is set to introduce 100 electric buses into its public transport system by the end of the year.
The initiative, announced by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will also involve the construction of charging stations at various fueling stations.
The move towards electric vehicles is expected to have a positive impact on the environment, reducing carbon emissions and operating costs. The buses will be powered by solar and electricity, making them a sustainable option for public transport.
The introduction of electric buses is a public-private partnership initiative, aimed at reducing Ghana’s reliance on fossil fuels and promoting clean energy. The charging stations will be ready by the 2024 general elections, according to Dr. Bawumia.
This development is expected to revolutionize Ghana’s transport sector, making it more environmentally friendly and cost-effective.
