Pastor Drags And Rapes Less Than 18-year-old Girl In Church

Enoch Gbinyiam, a pastor affiliated with Winners Chapel Church in Omuo-Ekiti, was sentenced to one year in prison on June 13 by an Ado-Ekiti High Court for raping a minor within his church premises.

The court case stemmed from a single charge brought against Gbinyiam, as detailed by Julius Ajiba, the State Director of Public Prosecutions. According to Ajiba, the pastor raped the daughter of a church member during her visit to his residence. The victim regularly assisted the pastor’s wife with household chores and tutored his young children.

Ajiba explained that during one of these visits, the pastor allegedly drugged a bottle of Fanta and gave it to the minor to drink. Subsequently, the girl fell asleep and woke up to find herself bleeding profusely from her vagina.

Upon being alerted, the police arrested the pastor, and he was subsequently charged. The case, prosecuted under Section 2 of the Gender Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019, included testimony from four witnesses and two pieces of evidence.

In defense, Gbinyiam, represented by Adeyinka Opaleke, pleaded not guilty and presented a witness and evidence to support his case. However, Justice O.I.O Ogunyemi found the prosecution’s case to be convincing beyond reasonable doubt. Consequently, Gbinyiam was convicted and sentenced to one year in a Correctional Centre.
