The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested ten members of a human trafficking and child abduction syndicate and rescued 21 children, announced the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Hayatu Kaigama, during a press briefing at the command headquarters on Thursday, May 30, 2024.
Among the arrested is Bala Abubakar from the Tudun Wada area of Sokoto, who allegedly sold 28 children, including six of his own biological children.
CP Kaigama revealed that the suspects handed over the children to Kulu Dongoyaro and Elizabeth Ojah in exchange for amounts ranging from N150,000 to N250,000, under the pretense that the children were being taken to an Abuja-based NGO committed to their welfare.
The police continue to investigate the syndicate’s activities and ensure the rescued children’s safety and well-being.
