Just In: Former Sports Minister Mustapha Ahmed Is Dead

A piece of sad news reaching us at occupygh.com indicates that former sports minister Mustapha Ahmed has died.

Mustapha Ahmed passed at the age of 63 after a short illness, the report has it.

Dr, Mustapha Ahmed is renowned for his political offices held over the years in the public service, including a medical officer and a military man.

Born on 8 June 1960 in Bawku, Ghana, Dr. Mustapha Ahmed was a dental surgeon and a Ghanaian politician. He was elected to the Third Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana in 2001 after winning his poll in the 2000 Ghanaian general election. Ahmed served as a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and was re-elected in the 2004 and 2008 elections.

Ahmed was chosen in the 2004 election to serve in the fourth parliament of the fourth republic of Ghana, representing the Ayawaso East seat, from January 7, 2005, until January 6, 2009. He defeated Daddah Braimah B. of the New Patriotic Party and Abdiel Godly Babaaali of the People’s National Convention with 56.1% of the valid votes cast.

In the 2008 elections, Ahmed was re-elected as the member of parliament for the Ayawaso East constituency in the 5th parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana from 7 January 2009 to 6 January 20013. He received 57.16% of the total valid votes cast, defeating Mohammed Salisu Baba of the New Patriotic Party, Alhaji Mohammed Muftao of the People’s National Convention, Bernard Anvuur Billy of the Democratic Freedom Party, Amin Abdul Karim Larry of the Convention People’s Party, and Ahaji Haruna Bubakari Dabre, Daniel Danquah, Mohammed Amin Lamptey, and Samuel Kwesi Gyasi – all independent candidates.

In total, Ahmed won 114 parliamentary seats in the 4th parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana. According to reports, Dr., Mustapha Ahmed had been battling an illness for several months before his unfortunate demise. He is survived by a wife and three children.
