Four illegal miners arrested, Three Excavators Burnt In Subri Forest Reserve Raid

A joint operation by the Western Regional Forestry Commission and military personnel has dealt a significant blow to illegal mining activities in the Subri Forest Reserve, Wassa Essaman, Western Region.

Four galamseyers were arrested, and three brand-new excavators were destroyed in the raid.

The illicit miners had caused extensive environmental damage, destroying water bodies, trees, and approximately three acres of land.

According to Richard Adjei, spokesperson for the Western Regional Forestry Commission, the galamseyers typically operate under the cover of darkness, taking advantage of the community’s slumber to carry out their activities.

The Forestry Commission, in collaboration with military officers, stormed the site, apprehending four of the many galamseyers and handing them over to the Sekondi-Takoradi Police Command.

This operation marks a significant step towards combating illegal mining in the region and protecting the environment.

The Forestry Commission has vowed to continue its efforts to eradicate galamsey and preserve Ghana’s natural resources.
