The National Health Insurance Authority has announced a new initiative that will provide individuals with kidney disease who are under 18 or over 60 with eight free dialysis sessions per month.
This initiative is part of the National Health Insurance Scheme and will run until December 2024.
The goal of the program is to assist vulnerable patients in need of dialysis treatment. An amount of GH¢2,000,000.00 has been approved by Parliament to support this effort.
The NHIA has also allocated an additional GH¢2,400,000.00 from its Corporate Social Responsibility budget to support the initiative.
The initiative is part of the NHIA’s 20th anniversary celebration.
Patients between the ages of 18 and 59 will also receive a subsidy for two dialysis sessions per month.
The government has committed to finding sustainable solutions for renal diseases and other illnesses not currently covered under the NHIS.
