The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has put a hold on its proposed $20 round-trip passenger fee.
The GACL wanted to introduce a $20 round-trip fee for all passengers flying out of Kotoka International Airport (KIA), with $10 collected for each departing and arriving leg.
The fee was intended to cover maintenance costs, including baggage belt repairs at KIA.

This proposal faced criticism from Ghana’s Parliament.
Ghana’s Parliamentarians questioned the legality of the fee, with some arguing that GACL lacked the authority to impose such a charge without parliamentary approval. There were also concerns about transparency and justification for the fee amount.
Due to the parliamentary pressure, GACL has suspended the proposal.
