Most supporters were looking forward to seeing how Legon Cities FC former Wa All Stars would fare in their first game as they had mesmerized them with their branding and new bus. Wa All Stars changed their name to Legon Cities after Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi sold the team to an Accra based businessman. Asante Kotoko’s Justice Blay scored the first goal of the 2019/2020 league season as Elmina Sharks Suraj Ibrahim received the first red card of the new season. Veteran Yahya Mohammed scored the first hattrick against Inter Allies in the 2019/2020 league season.

In Dansoman, Legon Cities FC took a 2-goal lead scoring in each half but Liberty came back stronger as they got their consolation goal in the 78th minute. As we all thought Liberty was on the verge of losing, Michael Ampadu scored an 89th-minute equalizer to earn the home side a point from their first match.

Brekum Chelsea caused an upset at the Accra Sports stadium when they defeated Accra Hearts of Oak by a lone goal. Hearts came into the league with a lot of issues concerning their coach Kim Grant as to whether he will be staying or not. There has been a lot of rumor that their top Striker Joseph Esso will be leaving them to join Al Hilal in the Sudanese league. Hearts needs to sort out their ‘off the pitch’ issues if they want to win the league as most of their supporters have been wishing for the past 10 years.

At the Dawu Theatre of Dreams, Alhaji Grunsah’s King Faisal started their campaign back in the league on the wrong foot as Dreams FC defeated them by 4-1. King Faisal and Olympics were restored into the league to increase the number of participants from 16 to 18. WAFA shocked Karela at their backyard as they defeated them by a lone goal. Karela was once a fortress but the academy boys from Sogakope managed to snatch all 3 points from away.

Ebusua Dwarfs could not start their home campaign with a win as Medeama took all 3 points from Cape Coast to Tarkwa by defeating them 2-1.
Elmina Sharks had to play with 10 men when their player Suraj Ibrahim was sent off in the first half after receiving a red card. Bechem United took advantage of the red card and won by 2 goals to nil.
