A Ghanaian couple, Valarie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae, both 28, have been sentenced to 25 years to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of their five-year-old son, King Owusu.
The sentencing took place on May 1, 2024, in Corona, Queens, where the couple resided, and was presided over by acting State Supreme Court Justice Steven Pilewski.
Despite their pleas for leniency, the couple was handed the maximum sentence permissible for second-degree depraved indifference murder.
The trial revealed chilling details of the abuse King endured, including brutal beatings over several days, resulting in injuries too numerous to count.
The couple’s expressions of remorse and love for the child were not enough to sway Justice Pilewski, who emphasized the severity of their crime.
