Popular Ghanaian Player Arrested For Allege Murder Of Two Police Officers

A popular Ghanaian footballer, Ganiu Iddrisu, has been remanded into police custody for allegedly shooting and killing two police officers at East Trasacco on May 2, 2024.

Presenting the facts of the case to the Court on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, Chief Inspector Margaret Ofori Boadi of the Legal and Prosecution Unit at CID Headquarters, told the court that the accused persons, along with others at large, conspired to shoot and kill the two police officers.

She named the suspects as Mohammed Alhassan Damba, a public servant; Chinkor Abdullah Alhassan, a foreman and Arabic translator at Hakska Block Factory at East Trasacco; Alex Appoh, a gardener; Bright Nana Kwame Owusu, also a worker at Hakska Block Factory; and Ganiu Iddrisu, a footballer.

She explained that on May 2, at about 6:30 pm, the accused persons conspired with others and killed the two off-duty police officers, L/Cpl. Tasigya Ngapun Isaac and Constable Benjamin Tindum, who were seated in front of their private residence near Hakska Block Factory at East Trasacco, East Legon, Accra.

She urged the court to remand them as investigations were ongoing.

Counsel for the accused persons, Nelson Noble Adedawonu, requested the Court to grant bail, arguing that the facts did not support the charges, especially since the first accused person was not even within the court’s jurisdiction when the alleged crime occurred.

He also informed the trial magistrate, Prince Osei Owusu, that the police had arrested the wrong people who did not know about the crime at East Trasacco.

After hearing both parties, the trial magistrate remanded the accused persons into police custody, stating that he could not grant bail due to jurisdictional constraints.

He advised the counsel for the accused to seek bail at the appropriate forum and adjourned the case to May 20, 2024.
