Desperate time requires desperate action and this is the case of an elderly woman from Igbore in Abeokuta who made a shocking or rather pitiable statement in a video that has gone viral on social media amid Coronavirus lockdown.

The woman said she will do anything to get money to feeding her children who are hungry even if she has to go as low as 500 Naira.

She noted that she wouldn’t mind sleeping with a man, as long as money is provided to feed her family that was almost dying of hunger.

“I am hungry. There is no assurance from the government. No one is ready to help me and I have to deploy the arsenal that God has given me to help my children” she said exasperatedly.

Nigerians expressed their concerns and tried reaching out to Mama but all to avail.

It is notable to say that social media has more power than the government.

Barely two days after the aged woman’s cry, one of Nigeria’s popular musicians, Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy put a smile on the face of the woman by gifting her the sum of hundred thousand naira.

Her joy knew no bounds as she kept thanking and blessing the giver.

This video no doubt underscore the level of poverty in the society which has been exacerbated by the lockdown directive.

Nigeria economy is made up of small business dominated by an informal economy that relies on daily income for survival.

In the country, where full lockdowns are in effect in Lagos and Abuja, small-scale businesses and traders are finding ways to stay alive. While major business districts are empty and highways typically locked in traffic jams are deserted, some informal businesses still operate.

The lockdown which was meant to mitigate the effect of Coronavirus in the society makes little sense to citizens as hunger has become the order of the day.

“Let Coronavirus kill me, instead of hunger”, a trader said.

The stay at home order has led to various levels of frustration and starvations for residents.

Many have been deprived of their livelihood and burdened with lack of funds to cater for their welfare, hoping that the order would be lifted and the fight for survival continues.
