Husband Sets Wife’s House On Fire For Refusing To Participate In Late-Night Prayer

Ahmed Ojo, identified as an Islamic cleric, has allegedly ignited a fire at his wife’s residence in the Egbe Odo area of Isua Ijesa in Ekiti State after she declined to join him in late-night prayers.

Bosede Afolabi, his wife, disclosed in an exclusive interview with Punch on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, that the incident occurred on April 27.

Afolabi recounted that when her husband returned home and requested her presence for prayer around 11 pm, she refused due to exhaustion from work.

Despite her explanation of fatigue, her husband’s displeasure escalated, leading to a confrontation that prompted her to seek assistance from neighbors to calm him down.

Despite her efforts, her husband’s agitation intensified, prompting her to seek refuge at a neighbor’s house, fearing for her safety.

Later that night, a neighbor alerted them to a fire engulfing their home, allegedly set by her husband. Upon reaching the scene, the fire had consumed the entire building. Her husband was apprehended and handed over to the police.

Afolabi disclosed that she remarried Ojo after the passing of her first husband and had accommodated him since their marriage.

When questioned about previous conflicts, she attributed his behavior to alcohol influence, noting occasional drunkenness but no significant disputes before this incident.

The aftermath left her devastated due to substantial losses, and she appealed for support from Nigerians.
