A tragedy report from Kano indicates that 7 guests have died after consuming local tea, Zakami, at a friend’s wedding. The groom is reportedly on the run following the unfortunate incident.
According to further reports gathered, other guests are currently in the hospital after drinking the same local tea at the wedding which took place in the Sheka area of Kumbotso Local Government, Kano.
The tea reportedly contains a psychoactive substance.
Sanusi Yahaya, older brother of the bride told local news that the tea was prepared with different types of drugs. He also said that it has become a norm for young people in the area, especially drug addicts, to hide behind ceremonies to prepare and take tea laced with drugs.
“They cooked the tea and they themselves didn’t even know the number and types of drugs that were inside to the extent that some had to abandon it. But some of them insisted that they must drink from the tea, saying that their brains can take it.
“After drinking the tea, two people died, some have recovered while others are hospitalized.”
