Only one Member of Parliament in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially backed Kennedy Agyapong, a financier and former member of parliament, in light of the tension surrounding the ongoing Super Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
With 137 MPs, the ruling New Patriotic Party holds a majority of seats in parliament. Additionally, they are quite powerful at the local level in each of their various constituencies, which makes their support for a candidate essential in any delegate-based election.
A source within the Majority Caucus of Parliament revealed that only one of the 137 NPP members in Parliament have pledged their support for Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency, in his quest to be chosen as the NPP’s flagbearer for next year’s presidential election.
We are all members of the same party and he is our colleague in the House of Commons, but have you seen or heard a number of MPs supporting him? Since he began running for election as flagbearer, just one member of the majority side (from the Central Region) has supported him, according to the source.
