Energy Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh has emerged as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) running mate, surpassing nearly 20 contenders in the race.
The extensive list of hopefuls included active lobbyists, media favorites, and several prominent figures who neither explicitly sought nor declined the position.
Among the top contenders were Chief of Staff Frema Opare, Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, and Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum. Supporters of these candidates were notably vocal, often clashing with Prempeh’s own backers.
However, Prempeh’s resourcefulness, grassroots political acumen, leadership qualities, generosity, and unwavering party loyalty ultimately secured his selection.

Surveys conducted among the candidates consistently favored Prempeh, recognizing him as the optimal choice for the role. The complete list of contenders included:
