Jibrin Yusuf, 25, has been detained by the Katsina State Police Command on suspicion of killing an eight-year-old girl and raping her in the village of Kanon-Haki in the state’s Faskari Local Government Area.
The incident happened on August 2, according to ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command’s spokeswoman, who was parading the suspect on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
The late victim’s father, Hassan Jibrin, hired the suspect on that fateful day to transport fertilizer from one of his farms to another located on the outskirts of the village, while the victim was tasked with guarding the fertilizer at one of the farms while her father attended to some laborers, according to the PPRO.
“The suspect took advantage of the young girl and pulled her against her will to a nearby farm where he raped her and killed her with a sharp knife. The corpse was then taken to another countryside, where he covered it with leaves and fled with three bags of fertilizer,” the man claimed.
The PPRO further stated that as soon as investigators learned of the report, they sprang into action and were successful in capturing the culprit.
The defendant apparently confessed to the sexual offense and to taking the three bags of fertilizer that were found over the course of the inquiry.
