Ace Ghanaian broadcaster Nana Yaa Brefo has disclosed the reasons behind her decision to leave Angel FM/TV and join Media General for the second time.
Her departure was prompted by attacks from some current Angel FM employees.
Nana Yaa faced harsh criticism from Ghanaians and Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) staff after she posted a Father’s Day message to Dr. Kwaku Oteng.
She also shared a video with Captain Smart and other Angel FM employees, Yaa Kyerah and Kwamena Sambiny, which sparked mixed reactions. Some accused her of hypocrisy for associating with ABN despite leaving, while others criticized her as unreasonable.
In response to the backlash, Nana Yaa Brefo addressed the issue on TikTok. She explained that after leaving Multimedia, she was contracted by ABN to host a morning TV show and read news.
However, upon starting, she was informed that a restructuring was underway and was asked to wait. She joined Captain Smart’s morning show team at Angel FM in the interim.
When Captain Smart moved to Media General, Brefo requested to take over the hosting role, given that the TV restructuring was incomplete. Her request was denied, and Kofi Adoma was appointed instead.
Nana Yaa Brefo expressed frustration with her employers’ lack of consideration for her experience and expertise, stating that she had advanced beyond roles such as co-hosting or occasional news reading.
