Nigerian National Sentenced to 10 Years in Ghana for Cocaine Smuggling

Ernest Nnajuiba Ukechukwu, a Nigerian citizen residing in Brazil, has been handed a ten-year prison sentence by an Accra High Court for possessing and attempting to smuggle cocaine into Ghana.

The authorities from the Narcotics Control Commission seized a substantial amount of cocaine, weighing 16568.83 grams, at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) during his arrest.

The court’s verdict also includes ten years of hard labor and a fine of Ten thousand penalty units.

If Ukechukwu fails to pay the fine, he will serve an additional three years behind bars, with both sentences to be served concurrently.

This ruling reflects the country’s firm stance against drug trafficking and its commitment to fighting the illegal drug trade.
