A suspected thief met his demise in a shocking incident in Otukpo, Benue state, on Friday.
The yet-to-be-identified man was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize a transformer on a high-tension pole near the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) centre.
The lifeless body was discovered dangling from the pole on Saturday morning, with tools still in his hand. Officials from the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) were called to the scene to retrieve the body.
This incident bears a striking resemblance to a similar tragedy that occurred in Anambra state months ago, where a suspected thief was electrocuted while attempting to steal a high-tension cable near the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.
In both cases, the victims were caught in the act by the sudden restoration of power, resulting in their electrocution. These incidents serve as a stark warning to would-be thieves and a reminder of the dangers of tampering with high-voltage electrical equipment.
