Bishop Timothy Otu, the general overseer of the Agape Evangelical Ministry, has been detained, according to police in the Abia state, in connection with the death of Mrs. Happiness Echieze, a female evangelist, in an Aba hotel.
According to Vanguard, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the police public relations officer for the Abia State command, made this information public on Wednesday.
Otu had gone into a hotel in the Obingwa council area with the woman, who was 43, but she was subsequently discovered dead in the room with her clothes removed, according to Chinaka.
According to sources, Otu, who is from Ugep in Cross River State, booked into the hotel to allegedly have sexual encounters with the female preacher in his church. She is reportedly a mother of three and lives in Bayelsa State with her husband. Occupygh.com also covered this story.
According to the PPRO, “On August 13, 2023, at around 9:30 am, Mr. Godwin Akpan (male), who resides at Jubilee Guest House in Ovom Village, Obingwa LGA, reported an incident to the Isiala Ngwa Police Division.
It was discovered that a clergyman named Timothy Otu (male), affiliated with the Agape Evangelical Ministry at Obikabia Junction in the Obingwa LGA, and a woman named Happiness Echieze (female) from the Isialangwa LGA, Abia State, had both checked into the hotel on the evening of August 12, 2023, around 9:25 p.m. The age of Happiness Echieze was 43.
“Further details provided by Mr Akpan indicated that on the same date, around 12:00am (midnight), he entered the hotel room of the aforementioned clergyman and discovered the lifeless body of Happiness Echieze.
“She was found unclothed, and a white substance was emanating from her mouth and nose. Regrettably, the clergyman was absent from the scene.
“We hereby inform the public that immediate preliminary investigations have been launched into this matter. The corpse has been transported from the location and is currently at the SDA Mortuary in Aba, awaiting an autopsy examination.”
