A UK-born musicologist, Professor John Collins has publicly declared that Shatta Wale’s ‘My Level’ song is an Afro-Dacnehall make and not a High-Life make, for he was heavily surprised to see it in the high-life category during the VGMAs last Saturday, OccupyGh.com reports.
Speaking to Joy News’ Israel Laryea, Professor John Collins said even though ‘My Level’ has some highlife elements, it has a lot of other elements that tilt it away from the highlife genre.
He rather said he would describe it as Afro-Dancehall. He also said Kidi’s ‘Thunder’ and King Promise’s ‘CCTV’ are also not highlife music. He would rather call them Afro-pop.

This year’s VGMA almost came to an abrupt stop when a brawl broke between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, leading to Stonebwoy pulling a gun and a subsequent pandemonium at the AICC venue.
Police is currently investigating the cause of the brawl, meanwhile Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy have been arranged for court appearance. Stay tune for more updates.
