In Nigeria’s southern state of Rivers, which is wealthy in oil, at least six people have perished from electrocution.
The victims allegedly met their deaths while installing a billboard.
According to reports, the incident took place at the Amaechi-School Road intersection in Rumuosi, near the East-West Road in the State’s Obio-Akpor local government area.

The victims were allegedly attempting to install a church billboard at the intersection when the iron from the board made contact with the high-tension pole.
The source claimed that while some victims passed away instantly, others had to be brought to a hospital where a doctor declared them dead.
It was also reported that some people had suffered varying degrees of injuries as a result of the incident.
The event has been confirmed by the Rivers State Police Command, who also stated that an investigation is still ongoing.
The Rivers State Signage and Advertising Agency, however, has denied knowing about the billboard’s construction beforehand.
The RISAA stated that it was committed to upholding high standards in the distribution of billboards and external signage within the state.
Okechukwu Edenkwo, the agency’s head of mobile advertising, stated in a DAILY POST interview that the company is adamant on upholding standards of professionalism.
When people erect structures and signs without consulting the agency, we take offense. We have no idea what caused yesterday’s events in any way.
