A soldier accidentally shot a civilian man at Ashaiman today amidst Coronavirus lockdown in the greater city of Ghana.
In a statement from the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghanaian soldier who is part of the team working to implement the lockdown accidentally shot and killed the civilian when he attempted to cause his arrest.
The statement from the military said the “civilian was being arrested on suspicion of indulging in illegal conduct contrary to the Narcotics Act.”
According to the military, the man was resisting arrest and attempted to disarm the soldier and it was during that time that the soldier’s gun accidentally went off.
“The suspect sustained life-threatening injuries and while being conveyed to the hospital for medical attention unfortunately passed on,” the statement added.
