A South African doctor Lauren Dickason has been arrested for strangling her 3 children to death in New Zealand.

The 40-year-old was arrested last Friday on allegations of killing her three daughters, two-year-old twins Karla and Maya, and their older sister Liane, six. Lauren allegedly strangled the three girls with cable ties. The bodies were discovered by her husband, orthopedic surgeon Graham Dickason.

Graham, who is employed by Timaru Hospital, was heard by neighbours screaming ‘is this really happening?’ when he arrived home on Thursday night. The tragedy came one week after the family moved to the Timari neighbourhood after two weeks in Covid quarantine, following their move from Pretoria, South Africa.

Friends and family in South Africa have expressed their shock at the news. Some have said that Lauren is a good person and does not deserve what is happening. Others have also opined that Lauren broke down and could not cope with life in New Zealand.

They highlighted that she did not have the same support system in New Zealand as she had in SA. In New Zealand, the family did not have domestic workers to help them manage.
