A tragic incident has occurred in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, South Africa, where a municipal official in charge of enforcing bylaws shot dead a traffic law enforcement officer.
The incident happened on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Kwanyoni Lodge in Nelspruit.
The official allegedly found the deceased man with his wife in one of the chalets and shot him twice, resulting in the victim’s death. The woman was not harmed in the incident.
The alleged killer, a 38-year-old municipal police officer, was arrested and is set to appear in court soon.
The crime scene was attended by the Hawks Nelspruit-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Nelspruit Vispol, and Nelspruit Local Criminal Record Centre.
The spokesperson for Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, confirmed the incident and said the victim was in the company of the suspect’s wife when the shooting occurred.
The Hawks’ spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, said an altercation took place in the chalet, and a broken beer bottle was found.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted the problem of violence in South Africa, particularly in domestic disputes.
The authorities have called on people to resolve their differences without resorting to violence and to seek help when necessary.
