Police in Las Vegas have taken a man into custody on suspicion of killing the hip-hop singer Tupac Shakur in 1996. Although Duane “Keefe D” Davis was arrested early on Friday, September 29, it was not immediately clear what charges he was expected to face.

An indictment was anticipated later on Friday, according to AP.

Shakur was hurt in a drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996. Six days later, on September 13, he went unexpectedly to a hospital at the age of 25.

Davis confirmed being in the Cadillac when the shooting began, according to the AP, both in interviews and in his autobiographical book “Compton Street Legend” from 2019.

In July of this year, Las Vegas police carried out a search warrant at Davis’ wife Pamela Clemons’ Henderson, Nevada, home as part of the investigation into Shakur’s homicide.

A.40-caliber cartridge, the same model as the numerous shells discovered at the scene of Shakur’s shooting, and other items were taken by police from the home, according to a search warrant obtained by The Post.

Greg Kading, a former LAPD detective who investigated Tupac’s death, claimed in an interview with The Washington Post on Friday that Davis “provided the gun and he actively sought out Tupac with his nephew.”

Davis and the others went outside with the purpose to shoot Tupac after passing the pistol to Davis’ nephew, who was travelling in the car with them. They are all equally responsible for soliciting murder as he provided the gun and his nephew used it to shoot the rifle.

This is a big deal, so I’m pretty excited,” Kading concluded. We were aware that this wasn’t an open case, and it seems like they’ve made enough progress that a formal closure is now feasible. For the rest of history, Tupac’s murder will not be recognised as an unsolved crime.

Tupac’s life was tragically cut short while he and his friends were travelling in a convoy to a nightclub in Las Vegas after watching the Mike Tyson vs.

duel for the heavyweight championship between Bruce Seldon.

Shakur was travelling in a black BMW when a white Cadillac pulled up next to it. The shooter inside fired at least nine shots, possibly aiming for Shakur who was sitting in the passenger seat.
