US President Donald Trump has said that the popular Bible literature ‘My Book Of Bible Stories’ published by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society should be included in the elementary school curriculum.
‘My Book Of Bible Stories’ was first published in 1978 and circulated worldwide by Jehovah’s Witnesses.
According to Trump, the book contains true stories from the world’s greatest book, the Bible that help shapes the lives of human to fit in a peaceful society. “The stories give you a history of the world from when God began to create until right up to our present day. They even tell about what God promises to do in the future.”, Trump said.
Trump added that the book may be studied as literature, but not as religious doctrine. “The lesson must be secular, religiously neutral and objective. Classes on the book as literature should be optional”, he added.
Public schools in the US may not teach religion, although teaching about religion in a secular context is permitted. The Bible may be taught in a school, but only for its historical, cultural or literary value and never in a devotional, celebratory or doctrinal manner, or in such a way that encourages acceptance of the Bible as a religious document.
“My Book of Bible Stories” ranks seventh among literary works by a number of languages. They have been translated into 194 languages.
