We’ve Lost Confidence In Police – Kidnapped Girls Family

Takoradi-Girls rescued

The families of the three kidnapped girls from Takoradi have lost confidence in the police, a spokesperson has said.

Michael Hayford Grant told GHone TV “the police have disappointed the three families” ever since the CID boss Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah announced that they know “where the girls are”.

Reports on Tuesday indicated that the three kidnapped young ladies had been rescued by the BNI. Pro-government newspaper, Daily Guide, also reported Wednesday that the three young ladies are currently seeking medical treatment at an undisclosed health facility in Accra.

Several NPP functionaries stated on social media that the girls had been found.

However, the police issued a statement denying the report saying it “was false.”

The Police Administration, however, assured families of the kidnapped girls and the public that they are working tirelessly with partner agencies to rescue the kidnapped girls.

Ruth Quayson, Priscilla Blessing Bentum and Priscilla Koranchie were reported kidnapped between August 2018 and January 2019.

Grant believes the story was planted in the newspaper to divert attention from their planned demonstration against the police on May 2, 2019.

“I think the story is not true. Since the CID boss came out saying they know where the girls are, we have still not heard anything. I think they are doing us ‘April Fool’,” he told host of GHOne Newsroom Serwaa Amihere on Thursday.

The police also stated in their statement that they have assigned liaison officers to the three families to update them on their rescue mission. The family spokesperson said the claim is false.

“The police are telling me what Daily Guide reported is false. They said whatever it is they are working hard to get the girls. I’m challenging the police to give out the names of the liaison officers dealing with us and the media must find out when was the last time they had a conversation with us,” Grant stated.

He said they are still going ahead to “demonstrate against the CID boss” on May 2 and served notice “we will take Daily Guide to court for misleading us. I don’t have confidence in the Ghana Police anymore. There is nothing positive the police have for us.”

“It has not been easy for us,” Grant said.
