The Medical Director of Winneba Trauma Hospital has been suspended following the death of an elderly woman who was abandoned in a bush.
The woman was allegedly left in the bush by hospital staff after they were unable to locate her family.
The incident has sparked outrage and an investigation has been launched.
A five-member committee has been established to investigate the incident and the Health Ministry has directed the Ghana Health Service to submit a full report within 30 days.
The hospital management has confirmed that the woman was a patient at the hospital, but claims that the management did not direct staff to abandon her.
The incident has been widely condemned and there are calls for accountability.
The Ghana Health Service has assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
