Woman Fakes Her Death To Avoid Paying Debt; Pictures Surfaces Online

An Indonesian woman has been accused of faking her own death in an attempt to avoid paying the debt she owns to another woman.

The alleged mom — known only as “L” — reportedly owed an undisclosed sum to associate Maya Gunawan, with the cash initially due Nov. 20.

According to the Daily Star, L could not procure the money by that date and asked Gunawan to extend the loan until Dec. 6.

That day came and went — and Gunawan was shocked when she logged onto Facebook on Dec. 12 to discover a post from L’s daughter announcing her mom had been killed in a car crash.

The post proclaimed L had died after an incident on a bridge near her home in Medan, North Sumatra. It further declared she would be buried 370 miles away in the city of Banda Aceh.

The Facebook update included a photo of a “corpse” wrapped in a sheet and a different image of a gurney being wheeled into a hospital. Two additional photos showed L wrapped in a “shroud” with her eyes closed as she played dead.

However, the daughter reportedly admitted the post was a lie, claiming her mother had hacked into her Facebook account to pen the fiction.

The image of the gurney was reported to be a screen grab of a TV show, while the snaps of L in a shroud were purportedly taken to make her “deception more convincing,” according to the Daily Star.

In speaking with local media, Gunawan claimed she had not gone to the police.

She added she is still waiting for L to pay back the amount due but reports she is no longer reachable.
