Ghanaian rapper Medikal has taken a firm stance against a group of young men who have been mimicking him and his fellow musicians on social media.
The group, known as the 4 Kings, has been accused of copying celebrities’ fashion sense and demeanor as well as singing their songs in public.
Medikal, who is known for his distinctive style and outspoken views, took to social media to condemn the act and offer some careful words of advice to the 4 Kings.
Speaking specifically to the lookalike of himself, Medikal emphasized the importance of hard work and financial independence, stating that “Medikal doesn’t come on live to ask for MOMO.”
Legal experts have pointed out that celebrity impersonators not only violate the intellectual property rights of the artist by utilizing their picture or music without authorization, but they can also harm the artist’s reputation by giving poor performances or acting inappropriately.
Celebrity impersonation is not only illegal, it can also lead to serious consequences. Impersonators may be sued by the celebrity and sentenced to 20 years in prison.
As such, it is important for fans to show their support for their favorite artists in positive and constructive ways, rather than attempting to mimic them in potentially harmful ways.
