UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has stated that a university education is not necessary for success in life has sparked a wide range of reactions online.

While some agree with the sentiment, highlighting the value of alternative paths to success, others criticize the statement, arguing that university education remains crucial for many and should be accessible to all.

Sunak has unveiled plans for a crackdown on “rip-off” degrees being offered by some universities in the country that do not lead to decent job prospects for students.

The Office for Students (OfS) in England will be asked to limit the number of students that universities can recruit onto courses that are failing to deliver good outcomes for students.

The Prime Minister also confirmed plans already trailed to bring together A levels with the government’s new T-level technical education qualifications.

Sunak said he wanted to “introduce the new rigorous, knowledge-rich Advanced British Standard, which will bring together A levels and T levels into a new single qualification for our school-leavers”.
