A sudden downpour on Monday morning led to a devastating incident on the Italian Embassy stretch, where a falling tree struck a motorbike and a 4-wheel drive vehicle, leaving one person in critical condition.
The driver of the vehicle, who narrowly avoided a direct collision, described the harrowing moment when he saw the tree coming down and managed to stop just in time, but the bonnet of his vehicle was still smashed.
The motorbike rider, who was attempting to use the side road, was hit by the tree trunk, which fell on his leg, but has since been rescued and taken to the hospital. The incident caused a significant blockage on the road, with vehicles unable to pass from either side.
Emergency personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and Police are currently at the scene, working to bring the situation under control.
The driver, who escaped unscathed, expressed gratitude for his narrow escape, while concerns remain for the critically injured motorbike rider.
