Two people were almost lynched by residents of Esaase-Manhyia near Ahwerewa if it wasn’t for the intervention of the local police, OccupyGh.com reports.
Reports gathered by us indicates that one of the two persons was a police officer.
The suspect, Evans Ahenkan who was in uniform at the time of the crime, is a police officer with No. 46778 G/L/Cpl of the Court Unit.

The other, name not given yet was severely injured and could not talk because of his injuries.
Per an eye witness accounts, the suspect Evans Ahenkan with two others stomped a mining site, managed to stop a pickup vehicle and robbed them off their bounty – black sand.
It was then that the youth who saw the incident, rushed on the suspects and arrested two, while the third person managed to escape into the bush.
Meanwhile, suspect Abdallah was reportedly taken to Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital where he was referred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment.
D/Inspr Stephen Yeboah of Div CID, Nkawie i/c case, who confirmed the incident said,” on 26/08/19 about 1000hours, police Nkawie received a distress call to the effect that, some armed robbers have been arrested at Esaase-Manhyia near Ahwerewa and the youth were about to lynch them.”
He confirmed that,”A team of police personnel rushed to the place and rescued suspects No. 46778 G/L/Cpl Evans Ahenkan of Court Unit, Kumasi in uniform and one other whose name was given as Abdalla as he could not talk as a result of severe injuries meted out to him. According to the youth of the town, the suspects who were three in number came to a mining site, stopped a pickup vehicle on the way from the site.”
Inspr Stephen Yeboah also said suspect L/Cpl Evans Ahenkan has been detained for investigations.
However, he stated that, “One Karim Awudu aged 41 who came to the station and claimed ownership of the mining site, could not produce any valid mining documents. Thus, he was also detained for mining without authority.”
